standard citation for ELAN as a computer program

Could you please provide a suggestion on how to cite ELAN as a computer program in publications, along the lines of http://www.fon.hum.uva.nl/praat/manual/FAQ__How_to_cite_Praat.html?
Thanks! Frank

Hi Frank,

We have some guidelines on this page:
Citing ELAN
I hope this suits your needs?

-Han

Hi Han, Thanks for your message. No, that doesn’t because, as pointed out on the PRAAT website, “nowadays most journals allow you to cite computer programs and web sites”, for which I ask you to suggest name(s) of developers and an URL. Then it would come out as, e.g.
Sloetjes, Han (2017). ELAN [Computer program]. Version 5.0.0. https://tla.mpi.nl/tools/tla-tools/elan/
(change version number as needed)
Best, Frank

Hmm ok, the (APA) style guides allow quite some variation and all necessary information was already there on the Citing ELAN page, but to reduce the risk of authored citations (like your example) instead of unauthored ones, I’ve added a suggestion/recommendation for ‘citing as a program’ to the Citing ELAN page.
Thanks for pointing this out!
