Metadata search ELAN - ARBIL

Hello,

I came across a problem today. The context is the following: I have a project with multiple eafs and videos. All the eafs are linked to imdi files (created in Arbil. I wanted to search in a part of this corpus (only the male participants) so I wanted to use the “search multiple eafs” command.

When I tried to create an IMDI domain the following message has come up:

“The metadata search result file could not be loaded”

So I needed to conduct an IMDI search in a different software (Arbil?) and create an IMDI file in which the results of the search is included.

I made this search in Arbil successfully but I am not able to export the search result file. Now I do not have any idea about how to create this IMDI search result file.

I hope you can help me.

Yes, it is correct that the IMDI domain file needs to be created in a different application. This feature of saving an IMDI domain file used to be available in an older tool named “Standalone IMDI Browser”. This IMDI Browser, together with the old “IMDI Editor”, was superseded by Arbil, but this export feature was not re-implemented in Arbil.

The IMDI Browser is “deprecated”, no longer supported, but it is still there on the TLA site (https://tla.mpi.nl/tools/tla-tools/older-tools/standalone-imdi-browser/). It is a Java WebStart application and might not run anymore but you can give it a try (if you are adventurous).

So, this has become a hard to use feature in ELAN and maybe we should update the ELAN manual with some notes about this.
