I’m using ELAN for my dissertation and am finding it very useful (though not particularly intuitive). I am using the annotation mode, because the layout and colour coding suit my analysis best. However, I cannot find a way to make the annotations wrap, they just get cut off. I have searched through the documentation, this forum, and google, but cannot find a way to make the annotation’s text fit the annotation.
Also, when exporting as “an image from the ELAN window”, the quality is visibly worse than taking a screenshot, I am not sure why (and the text annotations are still cut off). I just want to use images of my timelines as above, but with the annotation text visible. I tried to add an example but it only lets me add one image as a new user.

In the layout of the annotation mode, in the timeline viewer in the lower part of the window, there is no line wrapping. The timeline “prevails” and all tiers have the same height. If line wrapping was supported, an annotation with a short duration but with a lot of text (there’s no built-in limit) would cover the height of maybe three or four tiers, shifting several tiers “out of view” (to mention one disadvantage).
In many cases though, there is some correlation between the duration of an annotation and the amount of text it contains and then changing the horizontal resolution (Zoom in the context menu) may be sufficient to see all of the text. Zooming in obviously reduces the time interval visible in the view and this may or may not be acceptable.
It is also possible to use one of the viewers in the top area, e.g. the Text viewer, to show all of the text of the most important tier for the screenshot (if there is one).
Yes, I guess in most cases using the system’s utility for creating screenshots is the best option. If I remember well, the export of an image of the ELAN window was mainly added for situations were the video image was lost (replaced by a black rectangle) when using the system’s screen capture utility.
