Video will not play

The video files are mp4 format, and will play normally in other media players. However, once uploaded to ELAN I am just shown a blue screen where the video should play, I have reinstalled elan and downloaded a K-Lite Codec pack but the files still do not play. I have tried other mp4 files I have previously tagged and they play as normal. Do I need to convert the videos into a different format? (also, may not be relevant but the videos have no sound so no audio file is uploaded).

Same here, running windows 10, Elan 6.0 and no entries in the activity log except Warnings and Infos.

In most cases in which this blue rectangle problem is reported, the log contains messages concerning the aspect ratio of the video (could not be initialized/detected). Unfortunately, so far we have not been able to figure out what causes this problem. We have reports of users where the same video works on e.g. one Win10 system with ELAN 6 but not on another Win10 system with ELAN 6 (making reproduction of the problem difficult).

So far we haven’t been able to advise much else than giving a re-encoding of the video a try (referring to this guide). Or to try the two alternative media frameworks on Windows, based on JFX or VLC (via Edit-Preferences-Edit Preferences->Platform/OS), both frameworks with their own (accuracy) problems.
