Video gets stuck every second (or less) in ELAN

Hi!

I am trying to play .mp4 videos in ELAN 7.1 (Windows 11 OS), but they stumble every second or less. I’ve tried it with different files and the result is the same. My colleagues were playing these same video files in the same version of ELAN without any difficulties.

I would be grateful for help!

Hello,

Do you also experience stuttering when you play the same MP4 files in other video players on your machine (for example VLC or the Windows “Films & TV” / “Media Player” app), or is the problem only in ELAN?

Could you also share your platform details, and indicate which Media Framework is selected in ELAN (you can find this under Edit → Preferences → Platform/OS)?

Thanks for your quick reply! The problem is only in ELAN, other video players play the same videos perfectly well on my PC.

Here are the details:
Windows - Cross Platform Java Look and Feel

Media Framework - Java DirectShow Framework

The fields Java - “Microsoft Media Foundation” and “Correct the video frame when pausing the player” are ticked

Extractions of audio samples from video… - None

Thanks for the additional information.

In addition, it would be very helpful if you could send us an ELAN log from a session where the stuttering occurs.
To get more detailed information in the log, please do the following before:
In Edit → Preferences → Platform/OS, tick “Log messages at debug level”, then close ELAN completely and start it again. Open your MP4 file, play it until you clearly notice the stuttering. After that, go to View → View Log… and share the log file to my email (Divya.Kanekal AT mpi.nl)
The log may show errors or warnings from the underlying media framework (DirectShow / Media Foundation) .
Once I’ve checked the log, we can decide which ELAN settings or media framework options to try next.
