User Interface Language

Greetings,

I’m not seeing any documentation on the User Interface Languages available for ELAN. Can you point me to any documentation on which languages things such as menu items are supported in?

Thank you,

Hello,

There is no separate documentation on the user interface translations. Whenever a new translation is introduced, this is mentioned in the release notes. Apart from that the information is available in ELAN itself: the list in the Options->Language menu and acknowledgments in the About ELAN window (Acknowledgments tab → Translations tab).

Unfortunately several of the listed languages don’t have active translators anymore (or at the moment) and are (very) incomplete. We might decide to remove some of the languages if the percentage of translated items gets too low.

Do you have an external website that you use to manage translations? I’m most familiar with the experience around translating wordpress core. https://translate.wordpress.org/ in that project they need to then convert the translation strings to .pot files or whatever the storage format it… I know there are several different websites for facilitating these parts of a project. Basically these sites are web elicitation tools for translation strings.

No, we don’t have anything similar yet, that’s still on the wish/to-do list.
At the moment someone (or a group) is responsible for a translation in a particular language. If it would be possible to provide translations via a web page, we could consider to allow anyone to contribute their translations or suggestions.
