Unable to play audio

Hi!
First time ELAN-user here.
I’ve recently downloaded ELAN 5.7 for Mac. I was unable to download newer versions as my operating system is old.

I am able to open .eaf files in ELAN, however, when these are opened, I am largely unable to interact with the file. While I can press the “play” button, no sound is played / the red cursor does not move. I have checked that all audio levels are up in the “control”-panel and on my device.

I really hope this community can help!
Thanks,
Nanna

Hi Nanna,

What kind of media file(s) is/are linked? Only audio or both video and audio? Do you know the type of the media file(s)?

Are your audio files located on a hard drive?
I have an old computer, and I cannot use ELAN with an audio on hard drive, because it’s too slow. I have to first copy the audio file to the computer.
You also should check that you have still linked the audio files to your .eaf file. If you moved your audio to another folder, you will need to re-link it. You can do that by going to Edit > Linked files…

Did anyone find something to fix this. I have a MacBook Pro 2022, latest software ELAN 6.5. Everything was working fine and then suddenly it was not. Everything is exactly the way it was with the .eaf and .wav files the exact same names in the same folder. I downloaded VLC, etc. I even tried linking the files again. I even, desperately went to TimeMachine backup and went backwards, nothing. HELP. I am working on a crime lab project that is urgent.

Hello,

Apologies, I just followed up on another post, I hadn’t seen that you posted more or less the same question to different threads.
Some of my remarks there are still relevant, the viewer could be hidden, maybe by accident. Visualisation of the waveform does not depend on any specific media player (audible playback does).
If everything was working and then suddenly not, it could be that the viewer is hidden, by accident, otherwise, if something really is broken, I would guess there should be relevant error messages in the log (View->View Log…).
