Raphaël Merx has written an online service that takes an Elan file and translates tiers. He wrote this for work I am doing with Bislama (Vanuatu) and it translates from Bislama to English, but you can select to translate to and from a number of languages. It creates a new tier and you then download the .eaf file with the translation. ( https : // elan-trans-api.rapha.dev/). Feedback welcome.
The ELAN translation service uses Google’s Gemini API for translations, which according to Google’s data governance policy does not share submitted data with third parties nor use it to train their models (https : // docs.cloud.google. com/gemini/docs/discover/data-governance). The web application is deployed on the Melbourne Research Cloud and processes files transiently in memory without storing any uploaded ELAN files or logging personal information. Translation requests are logged only with metadata such as file size and language direction for service monitoring purposes. Once a translation is completed and the file is returned to the user, no copy is retained on the server.
