Template not loading

Hi,

I have a template but it doesn’t load in ELAN. I can’t even open it in ELAN without a media file.

Any troubleshooting advice would be appreciated.

Hi,

The copy & paste or uploading into the forum post probably messed up the quotation marks; at least that is the first error I get if I create a .etf file from your template and try to use it. I assume you don’t face this problem.
Then (the real problem) there are several elements missing:

there is no HEADER element
the CVE_VALUE elements refer to a "und" LANGUAGE element through their LANG_REF attribute but that element is missing

It might be good to first create a basic template from a new/empty ELAN document (maybe without any tiers, like in your example, but maybe with at least one CV with one entry) via File->Save as Template... This gives you a basic .etf XML file, with the minimal required elements which you can then edit. Or create the complete template with ELAN, if possible, e.g. by importing the types and/or controlled vocabularies from another document?

Yes, “new/empty” is maybe a bit unclear. What I meant is just a new ELAN document, via File->New..., selecting a random media file, then without creating tiers and tier types (and maybe after deleting the “default” tier and type) saving with File->Save as Template.... That results in the most basic, most minimal template one can get.

Your question about the greyed out Stereotype would benefit from a bit more information concerning the situation this is in. Is this in the Change Tier Type... window?

Hello,

If I’m correct this occurs when trying to import tier types from a template into an existing document (as opposed to creating a new document with a media file and a template file)? Does the template load correctly in the latter situation, when creating a new document?
Anyway, maybe there is something wrong with the template, difficult to say. If you want, you may send the template to me for inspection (han.sloetjes AT mpi.nl).
