Stuttering in elan?

it is annoying when stuttering came sometimes. sometimes not. What is really wrong?

Hi,

This is probably not all of the contents of the log? I would expect error messages pointing to user interface elements. There’s no need to paste the entire contents of the log (as it is after observing the shown phenomena), but maybe you can identify some meaningful messages at the bottom of the log?

I’m not sure if this will help, but did you already try to switch to the Windows look and feel (Edit->Preferences->Edit Preferences->Platform/OS, a relaunch of ELAN is required)?

I experience this stuttering regularly, switching the platform/OS view + relaunch temporarily alleviates this issue for a minute or so but the stuttering returns. This is an issue for both 6.2 and 6.3.

I’m running ELAN 6.3 on Windows 11, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Although I have no idea what causes these distortions, there are a few settings you can try.
In the ELAN install folder there is a folder named app which contains a file ELAN.cfg (amongst many other files). This file can be opened in a text editor. Scroll down to the section labeled [Java Options] followed by option lines starting with java-options=. There are a few DirectDraw related settings you can try, by adding them to the end of the list, one option per line:

(changing behavior of DirectDraw)
java-options=-Dsun.java2d.ddforcevram=true
java-options=-Dsun.java2d.ddblit=false

(the following both seem to disable the use of DirectDraw)
java-options=-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true
java-options=-Dsun.java2d.d3d=false

(enables OpenGL rendering, which also disables DirectDraw)
java-options=-Dsun.java2d.opengl=true

A relaunch is required after every change in this file. You could try one setting after the other and see if the problem is gone. No guarantee that any of these will actually solve the problem.
I’m sorry there’s no friendlier way to try out these settings.
