In most applications with text input (for instance, in this text box I’m writing in here), I can use the following keyboard shortcuts (on a Mac) to select all characters in the current word to the left or to the right of the cursor delimited by white-space and punctuation:
Shift+Option+LeftArrow = select everything to the left of the cursor until a delimiter
Shift+Option+RightArrow = select everything to the right of the cursor until a delimiter
Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to work when editing an annotation (neither in-line nor in the pop-up edit box) in ELAN 5.9, and I can’t find anything in the shortcut preferences that seems to correspond to this function. I couldn’t find any other functions with this key combination that might have been blocking this.
Interestingly, a similar standard text selection function does work, specifically selecting all character to the left/right on the current line, using Command+Option+Arrow.
Is there another function that has been assigned this key shortcut which is blocking the behavior I’m used to? Or can this be added in a future release?
Previous versions of ELAN (at least up to 5.7) used this shortcut. In fact, this is one reason I waited so long to update to 5.9!
(Using ELAN 5.9 on Mac 10.14.6)
