I am using ELAN to transcribe sign language data, and have imported a controlled vocabulary. The vocabulary is quite big, and it is very time consuming and impractical to scroll down and search for the gloss manually when annotating. Is there any way to search in the box of the controlled vocabulary for the needed gloss?

Yes, it is possible to switch from a long list of CV entries to a search/filter interface. The following section of the ELAN manual describes how to do this: Entering annotations from a Controlled Vocabulary .
That page also refers to a section in the Preferences page with options for the CV search function.
