Problem creating/saving files

For some reason, ELAN doesn’t react when I try to create a new file: it doesn’t give an error message or doesn’t crash, it simply doesn’t react at all when I click the “New”-button or use Ctrl+N. I have been able to start working in ELAN by simply dragging a video file into ELAN, but then I had the samen problem when trying to save my file. Did anyone else have this experience?

Hello,

Do you see any error messages in the log file ( View → View Log ) ?
Could you let us know the machine specifications ? Was it working before ? Do you know if something changed in the file system settings like permissions after which you are experiencing this ?
Does it happen with only New menu item? How about Open menu item, is it showing the file selection dialog ?

Under the Edit → Preferences → Edit Shortcuts → General what is the shortcut key set to “New document” ?

Hello,

In the log file, I indeed see some warning messages. This one appears when I try to create a new file: “Exception in thread “AWT-EventQueue-0” java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Comparison method violates its general contract!” (and then an additional list of problems)

My computer is an Acer Aspire A315-54 (Windows 11). ELAN has never worked before, so changes in the settings probably will not be the problem.
The same problem happens for “New”, “Open”, “Save”, “Save as”, …

The shortcut key for “New document” is Ctrl+N.

Hello,

Thank you for the details.
To know from where the exception arises, it would help if you share the complete log with us.
The part after you see “Exception in thread “AWT-EventQueue-0” java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Comparison method violates its general contract!” will help us more.
You can share the log files to ( Divya.Kanekal AT mpi.nl).
