Hey,
I’ve tried viewing .mpg and .eaf files in ELAN but they won’t work. Only .mov works. I’m using Windows, but when I use it on the college MACS it works fine.
It says
“No Media Player could be created while opening …”
I’m stumped. I have WMP, Quicktime, VLC and Realplayer. What’s the problem? Need to get these files for my assignments.
Appreciate any help!
Could it be the encoding of the mpg file (sometimes a file is named nnn.mpg but it is in fact an .mov file)? Can WMP play the file?
The ELAN log file might contain useful information. After opening the eaf+mpg, quit ELAN and open the file

It doesn’t seem to be working in WMP. Says its not supported as part of the file is missing. Opened the log file but I can’t make out the information! LOL!What should I be looking for?
You could look for messages about “Errors” or “Exceptions” at the end of the log file. You can post everything that follows the listing of “Filters”.
But if the file cannot be played in WMP it is probably not a “true” mpeg file. If QuickTime can play the files, it will be next in line to WMP. QuickTime needs to be installed before ELAN is installed and it should be installed including “QuickTime for Java” libraries. The messages in the log file can give a clue whether this is the case.
You could use VLC and try to transcode the file to a mpg file?

Elan’s player depends on the codecs installed for your regular player, if you install a good codec pack (CCCP for windows or peril for mac), should play more or less any format. However .avi and .mpeg still present some problems for me (pauses don’t work or video don´t start after a pause)
