I am wondering if you could give me advice on clipping media in ELAN using script. I followed the tutorial on the ELAN webpage but I could not proceed because (1) I found no files in the Resources folder; (2) I found the “clip_scripts_10_10.zip” file in a separate folder but I could not unzip it. I got a warning saying that the format is not supported (in Mac).
I’m using ELAN 6.2 and Mac OS version 11.2.1.
I’m wondering if any of you have got the similar issues and know how to troubleshoot.
Yes, the documentation concerning this clipping function is not up to date, unfortunately. For a part this is because of several problems we encountered with the past few distributions on macOS, problems for which we haven’t yet decided how to deal with.
One problem is/was that the AppleScript files in the mentioned .zip file hindered digital signing of the app. The zip file can now be downloaded via this temporary link until a “stable” link is set: https://www.mpi.nl/tools/elan/atemp/mac/clip_scripts_10_10.zip
It is best to unzip it somewhere and to copy the ..._export.scpt file to ELAN’s preferences folder mentioned in the guide, so the path will be something like this (replace ): /Users/<user>/Library/Preferences/ELAN/qtp_clip_10_10_export.scpt
Then it is best to copy the file clip-media.txt from the app subfolder in the Package Content of ELAN to the same preferences folder and modify the first line to include the full path to the .scpt file (so that it starts with osascript /Users/<user>/Library/Preferences/ELAN/qtp_clip_10_10_export.scpt ...
After saving the changes, launching ELAN and trying to clip a segment from a video, there will probably appear a system message, asking to give permission to ELAN to run a QuickTime script.
