Hello,
I am working with a colleague on different video files (.mp4 and .mov). I have been working on these videos on my computer for the past few years without having any issue (I have always used a mac). I have shared these videos to my colleagues (first on a google drive, then on WeTransfer) and for some reason the sound does not work on her computer (a PC) on ELAN (but it works on VLC). Do you know how to solve this problem? I once tried to convert the video from.mov to .mp4 and it worked once, but now she still cannot have access to sound.
Thanks for your help!
Hello,
It is best to assume that .mov files don’t work on Windows, but .mp4 shouldn’t be a problem. Still, there might be something in the encoding of the .mp4 that is not supported by a media framework resulting e.g. in no audible sound.
The default player framework on Windows is based on Microsoft Media Foundation and for that the Windows Media Player is a better reference or test player than the VLC player. Nevertheless, in some cases a file works in the WMP player while it doesn’t in ELAN.
Maybe there is useful information in the log (View->View Log…)?
(This all assuming the sound is not by accident muted in the Controls tab.)
