Exporting waveform (or any volume indicator) with annotations

I’m an interpreting student using ELAN to transcribe recordings of my own work (simulated environment, don’t worry, no confidentiality broken  ). I use exports of portions to illustrate points in my writing; when it’s just a question of word choice and timing then “Time-aligned Interlinear Text” is a pretty good option. But now I want to visually represent my volume and speed along with my word choices – ideally I could have a .png (or .pdf) with the waveform, or any other volume indicator, running parallel to time-aligned text, and I can’t work out if this is possible or even if anyone on the forums has wanted to do this - any ideas?
ELAN 6.8, Mac OS 11.7.10

Hello,

There is currently no export function which exports both annotation texts and e.g. the waveform. There is no export to PDF and the export to HTML (two formats which would probably be suitable for combined export) currently only exports text.
The only alternative in ELAN to creating screenshots, that I can think of, is the export function Export As->Filmstrip Image.... It is intended to save a video frames from a selected time interval as an image, but it allows to include a waveform as well. If you only have a .wav file linked, this could be used to create an image of the waveform of the selected time interval, with a bit more control on a consistent height of the image(s). But it unclear whether is an improvement on using Screenshot or similar.
Such functionality is probably already on the wish list, but it is not so straightforward to implement.

Hello,
It sounds like you’re looking to visually represent volume and speed alongside your transcriptions in ELAN. While ELAN doesn’t natively support creating .png or .pdf files with waveforms, you can use Praat, which integrates with ELAN, to generate waveform images. You can then manually align these images with your time-aligned text.
