Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has been able to get ELAN running on a chromebook. I have some students who only have access to chromebooks but would like to work on their language with ELAN. I saw one thread about this a while back (7 years…) but there wasn’t much of an answer. I don’t have access to a chromebook myself either.
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
Yes, it would be good to know if anyone tried and made it work (or failed to make it work).
From an ELAN developers point of view: there still is no version especially for Chrome OS (obviously) and we still don’t have access to a Chromebook, so we can’t do the testing ourselves.
There are two prerequisites for running ELAN on any system (e.g. from source): it should be possible to install and run a Java Runtime Environment and there should be a media playback environment for that system that is recognized by ELAN (e.g. VLC player or JavaFX).
A quick internet search gives me the impression that it is quite difficult (if not impossible) to install a Java Runtime Environment or even a Virtual Machine package on ChromeOS.
