Good day.
Over the past few weeks I have come to encounter quite an annoying bug.
Whenever I want to edit an annotation in annotation mode twice in a row, the entire program freezes to the point where it can only be closed by using the task manager. This usually starts to happen after about 30 minutes to an hour of usage time. After it occured for the first time, it will occur every single time I try to edit an annotation more than once. In order to make sure that I do not lose all of my work I have to manually save after every single change I make.
I am using the latest version of ELAN (6.4) on Windows 10. I am unfortunately prohibited from sharing the file but I am hopeful that this issue can be solved without it.
This sounds like one of those mysterious bugs which are difficult to reproduce. First of all the usage time after which this problem occurs varies quite a bit (probably it is not so much the time that plays a role but the memory consumption while annotating).
And then I can’t imagine why or how editing the same annotation twice in a row could cause a crash. It almost sounds like a crash won’t occur as long as you refrain from editing the same annotation twice, but instead would always edit another annotation before editing the same one again. That would be curious.
I don’t know which file you tried to share, but in case you could send the elan0.log (elan1.log etc.) file(s) to me (han.sloetjes AT mpi.nl) that might be useful. Located in ELAN’s data folder.
if I remember correctly, the freezing sometimes also occurs when I edit other annotations right after editing a different annotation of the same tier. However, I am not too sure about that. I will update you on this possibility once I got time to continue my work this week.
I will now send the requested files to your E-Mail. I will gladly assist you, should you need any other file from me.
