I am really new to using ELAN and am using it for my master’s work. I recently switched computers and cannot figure out how to transfer the work I had on the old one to the new one. I’m worried all my work will be lost and that I’ll have to start over.
I think that I am supposed to use a Shoebox file but after selecting all the criteria for the transfer, the software freezes up.
Hi, you have to copy the ELAN files (with the extension .eaf) and accompanying preferences file (with extension .pfsx), it they exist and probably also the media files they link to. If everything is in sub-folders of a single parent folder, it is best to copy the entire folder structure.
If that is not possible you might have to show ELAN on the new computer where the media file(s) is/are; ELAN will prompt you to do so if you open an .eaf file and it can’t find the media file.
You shouldn’t need to use a Shoebox file, if you already worked on the files in ELAN on the old computer!
