Ever since updating to 7.1, pressing enter in segmentation mode does not start a new annotation, but creates a short (one second-ish) annotation instead. Is there a way to fix this issue?

I tried to reproduce the issue in ELAN 7.1 on both macOS and Windows, but everything seems to work as expected on my side.
It might be that the option “one keystroke per annotation, fixed duration” is currently selected, because the behaviour you describe matches that mode with the duration set to about 1 second. In this mode, each press of Enter creates a short, fixed‑length segment , rather than starting a new annotation based on where you stop playback.
Could you please share a screenshot of your Segmentation keystrokes settings?
Could you also let me know on which platform (operating system) you are encountering this issue?
