ELAN 6.8: connecting Lexicon to tier(s) for glossing?

ELAN noobie here.

We have succeeding in converting our dictionary to .csv and importing it into ELAN.

We are trying to use it for glossing individual words in existing texts (.eaf).

(We understand sometimes people export their texts and import to FLeX to do the glossing, and reimport to ELAN for further work. Is that a good idea? Seems rather elaborate!)

How to connect the headwords (i.e. Lexical Units in ELAN) to the elements of our ‘mot’ (= word) tier (type SymSub) so that they are looked up in the Lexicon as we gloss?

The documentation seems sparse or else we have missed the descriptions of this process in the other documents (e.g. training docs and this forum).

More details with concrete example can be provided! Any pointers would be most welcome.

Hello John,

One of the way to have lookup in lexicon is to use interlineraization mode( may be you might have explored that already ? ) by glossing annotations to one or more lines of interlinearized text.

You can define Lexicon with lexicon entries lexical-unit (equivalent to lemma, headword, the primary lexical form), morph-type , grammatical-category etc. you can find more details here https://www.mpi.nl/tools/elan/docs/manual/#Sec_Lexicon_Interlinearization_mode.html

By connecting these lexicon fields to the tier type you can interlinearize the text with the help of analysers. You can have a look at Interlinearization in ELAN.
