I want to import a .CSV (or .txt) file into Elan that has transcriptions in Cyrillic script (for Russian). Can’t find the answer in Elan Manual or when trouble shooting around Elan version 6.2.
Alternatively, is there a way of converting Russian transcription in Roman alphabet already in Elan to Cyrillic? I have opted to do the transliteration (script conversion) in a third party software (translit)
(FYI, I don’t support any war of aggression, and neither does my girlfriend, for whom I am asking this question.)
Yes, transcriptions in Cyrillic are possible in ELAN; ELAN supports Unicode (although there can always be rendering problems etc.).
When importing .csv or .txt, ELAN assumes the file is encoded in UTF-8, this is currently hardcoded. Could it be the file that you tried to import is not encoded in UTF-8?
I believe the default font in ELAN supports the Cyrillic character set, but you may have to change the font for the imported tier(s) to have the characters rendered properly (this may differ per operating system).
