Disappearing controlled vocabulary

Controlled vocabulary imported through template.etf file disappears when I shut ELAN (5.4), even after saving. When opening file again, seems like it doesn’t find the template anymore, and tiers cannot be annotated, even manually.

So the eaf file has not been created based on the template, but the controlled vocabularies have been imported later?
In either case, the link to the template file is not stored in the .eaf; everything that is imported from the template is stored internally in the .eaf (in case of external controlled vocabularies the URL is stored in the .eaf).
I’m not sure if I understand what you mean when you write that a tier can’t be annotated anymore, not even manually. Do you just see an empty ‘list’ when you double click an annotation on a tier with a CV? If you Shift+double click an annotation on such tier, do you get the usual edit box to enter text? Or not even that (in which case the file is probably damaged)?

The eaf file consists of the template and the media, but the controlled vocabulary from the template disappears each time the program is closed. When I double click to make an annotation I see an empty list, and I get an empty box. But the box cannot be manually adjusted by typing something in.

Problem solved! When double clicking on the ELAN file I assumed it would open in the latest version that I currently use. But it opens in 4.6! When starting ELAN first, and then opening recent files or opening it by browsing the problem does not occur anymore.

I’m using a MPI computer, perhaps the fact that I do not have administrator rights interferes when I change the association to always open with the newest version.
