Copy and paste annotations on a different segment in the same tier

Hello,

Currently, I am using ELAN for annotation purposes. I have noticed that many movements are repeated throughout the data, and it would be very time-saving if I could copy and paste a group of annotations (including the parent tier and all dependent tiers) from one segment to another within the same tier.

I have attempted to follow the “Copy Annotation Group” and “Paste Annotation Group” procedure as outlined in the manual. However, I encountered an issue where the annotations are pasted into a new segment with the same length as the copied one, instead of being inserted into an already-existing segment that adheres to the previously established boundaries.

Is there a method or workaround to copy and paste a group of annotations into a different pre-existing segment on the same tier?

Your assistance in resolving this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello Gaia,

When an annotation or annotation group is pasted, the length or duration of the annotation does indeed not change. So, it is not adjusted to correspond to the boundaries of the current selection or of another preexisting annotation at the target location. That is how it has been implemented.

With the current available methods, the best way is probably to make sure the crosshair is at the beginning of the target segment before issuing the Paste Annotation Group Here command. That way at least the start time of the pasted annotations is already ‘correct’. Then the end of the pasted annotation can e.g. be dragged manually to the target end time.
