I’m using a Mac. After I downloaded Elan, I started work on my project. In the tier attributes I have been unable to change the parent tier. I can add a tier and choose the linguistic type, but if I try to choose add the parent tier, the linguistic type is no longer available to select. Then then leaves me unable to add the tier attribute for my analysis project.

When you want to add a tier as a child tier of a particular parent, you need to already have a tier type with one of the stereotypes other than none.
For example any one of the below options
- Time Subdivision
- Symbolic Subdivision
- Included In
- Symbolic Association
The tier types created with any of the above options will be listed when you select a parent tier for the tier you are creating.Then you are defining a relation between a child tier and a parent.
