I have an issue where loading saved Data results in a grey GUI. No Error messages. Switching between views indicates all files have been loaded, but not displayed properly. I am quite bound to virtual disks, USB memories and external harddrives. Is this an issue with that?

Difficult to say, an external drive might play a role. If, in the situation of the screenshot, the menus are still accessible (I guess so), then the log (View->View Log…) might contain useful information.
