I have been having problems with audio on mpeg files and hoping someone can help! The files are working in VLC and Windows media player, and in ELAN on my colleague’s computer, but there is no sound when I load them into ELAN on my computer. The files are .mpg files (but not sure which type); .avi files work fine. We have tried converting the file into an Mpeg1 file - this works. I am using ELAN version 4.4.0 on Windows Vista Home edition.

Hi,
Open the elan file in which you have this problem, try to play the file and which you encounter this problem, then try to access the log via View -> View Log… or if you are not able to access the log via the menu, then you can find the log file here: / .elan_data / elan0.log and copy past the contents of the log in the forum post.

Many thanks for your swift reply and apologies for my tardy response. I have now changed my computer, but unfortunately the above problem still continues. I am now using ELAN version 4.4.0 on Windows 7.

There are a few unfamiliar error messages in the log (about accessing the Windows registry), but I don’t think that these are an indication of the cause of the problem. What the actual cause is, is difficult to say. The one possible guess concerns the codecs, the filters in the graph. Could be that the combination of this “Demultiplexer” and the Microsoft Audio Decoder is problematic. Just a wild guess. To check this, you could install a demo version of the Elecard mpeg2 plugin for WMP (elecard.com) to see if that changes anything in the audio playback.
