Audio has suddenly stopped working on 6.3

Hello,

This issue refers to 6.3 as I found 6.4 glitchy.

I was segmenting this morning, went for my lunch, and have come back to the audio file no longer making sound. The cursor moves as though it is playing, but no sound comes out.

Things I have tried:

  • restarting my laptop (I’m on Mac)
  • switching it off completely and switching it back on
  • ‘quitting’ ELAN and restarting
  • changing to Transcription mode
  • deleting and re-inserting the audio file
  • playing around with loudness and quietness
  • saving under a new file name

The sound still works on earlier saves I’ve done of this file, but not my most recent one. I’d rather try and revive my most recent one as I have an extra 5 minutes of segmenting completed on it.

Any ideas? Thank you for your help!

Chloe

I have now also tried opening it with version 6.4 and it still doesn’t work.

Please help!

Hello,

If I understand correctly there is nothing wrong with the audio file or audio system, but there might be something wrong with your annotation file that somehow prevents audible playback.
Can you send that .eaf file to me (han.sloetjes AT mpi.nl)? And maybe the contents of the log after playing parts of that file without hearing the audio (View->View Log…)?

I’m not sure if you already tried this, since you seem to have multiple versions of the file: in the Finder move the corresponding .pfsx of to a different folder (when the .eaf file is not open) and then open the .eaf file again?

Hi Han,

Thank you so much for getting back to me!

I made it work again by opening the whole thing from a back-up I had made. I lost a bit of data, but all has been fine since then… fingers crossed.

Thanks so much for your suggestions!
