Assign same value to all annotations in a tier

Hi there!

I have a tier structure like so - utterance1 [parent], label1 [child; symbolic association]; utterance2 [parent], label2 [child; symbolic association], etc.

Is there any way I can assign all annotations in the label1 tier as the same thing, e.g., ‘string1’?

I’ve tried a few things. I currently have it set such that label1 is a symbolic association, with a controlled vocabulary that only has the value ‘string1’ that I want to set it to. I can use ‘Create annotation on dependent tiers’ to create an annotation in each of the parent1 slots on label1, but the only options for what to fill it with are empty or ‘with the value of parent tier’. So I have not found a way to assign all of them at the same time.

Any advice appreciated!

With thanks, and best wishes,

Zoë

Hi Zoë,

This is maybe counter intuitive, but you can use Tier->Label and Number Annotations...for that. You can enter e.g. ‘string1’ as the label part and deselect the options for delimiter and number etc.

Best,
Han

Hi Han,

Ah fantastic, this is great, thank you so much! It actually solves the problem I raised in the other thread about participant names in tab-delimited exports - I can have a symbolic association child tier to the transcription, and use this function to give them all the same value. Saves a lot of time!

With thanks again,

Zoë

I hadn’t thought of that possibility; great if that works!
