I am quite new to ELAN. I only started using it a few days ago and I have encountered a major technical issue. Namely, I cannot activate the waveform viewer. I followed the recommendations in the user manual, but to no avail. The waveform view is not responding to any clicking by the mouse and it does not offer any options. I also tried reinstalling the software (the latest version) and installing the 4.7.2 version. It is still unresponsive.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me with this issue as soon as possible, as time is of essence.
I have also a similar problem. I have got an EAF-file from another research group and the source sound file (WAV). In the EAF-file I see the tiers with the annotation, the annotation of the words of the speakers in the respective tiers seems to be time-alligned, but I cannot see the waveform. If we open the sound file in PRAAT we can see the waveform and can annotate the file (so the WAV-file is OK). Which is also the reason why we do not see in ELAN the waveform?
THANKS!!!
Can you add more information about the ELAN version and about the wav file? There might be wave files with e.g. a compression type that is supported by Praat but not by ELAN.
And also; is there anything useful in the Log file (View->View Log…)?
I too am unable to view the waveform. I use a Mac computer, I am running Elan 4.7.2. I have uploaded a *.mov and it’s corresponding *.wav file. I too am new to ELAN, but yesterday a colleague showed me how to do this on her Mac and it worked perfectly. I have opened the View Log as suggested above, but the information there is unhelpful to me, but I could take a screen shot and send it if that would be helpful.
Thank you Han, I have solved my problem. The signal file has revealed to be damaged, Elan could not read it, Praat did - as you know, Praat is quite “tolerant”, can read almost everything… Anyway we have fixed the damaged file and now everything is ok.
