Man and Tree Games

We started on the highway near Spice Creek collecting bush tea (pujtilip). Then we went to the other side of the highway looking for 'tirnung' which is the sap of bloodwood 'jartpurru' tree. We couldn't find any. We headed back to Kalkaringi and got some 'lawa' and 'yirrijkaji' from the side of the highway near the first bridge. Afterwards we got some firewood from the side of the Daguragu road in two places.
Man and tree game. This resource was created by the MPI to elicit directionals. It is played as a director-matcher game with the director holding a board with the man and tree pictures in front of her. She then describes a picture to the matcher who has a set of loose identical cards. The matcher hears an utterance and matches it to the appropriate picture. The aim of this paradigm is to prevent speakers from using demonstratives and gestures. She uses cardinal directions maybe because older women are around. She is facing south and Cassandra is the matcher. Rosy is 27 yrs old. We are at Ena's house at Daguragu.
