      • Description : The project Kontatto has studied language contact situations in North_Eastern Italy, focusing in particular on the Italian-German language border and on the Ladin minority group. Other linguistic islands were marginally studied as well. We were interested in historical contact areas where different language layers coexist, overlap and in some cases let new varieties emerge out of code-mixing. For this reason we were particularly interested in documenting the bordering area known as Bassa Atesina / Unterland (South of Bolzano) where contact between Tyrolean and Trentino dialects is historically rooted and still very intense. The dialogues available here are part of a larger corpus of South-Tyrolean German informal conversations, semi-structured interviews and map-tasks. Only the map-tasks are available in this section of the Language Archive. Map tasks involve pairs of native German speakers or German-Italian bilinguals raised in South Tyrol. Transcriptions have been manually POS-tagged and annotated according to the language on a word-for-word basis.
