Papuan Malay

The data within this corpus was collected by Nikolaus P. Himmelmann and Sonja Riesberg as part of two research projects funded by the Volkswagen Stiftung (“Documentation Summits in the Central Mountains of Papua” and “PAGE - Prosodic and Gestural Entrainment in Conversational Interactions across Diverse Languages”). It exclusively contains data elicited with the help of stimuli (such as the Tangram Task, the Pear Movie, etc.) With few exceptions, all recordings were made with students from the State University Manokwari (UNIPA). Speakers come from different areas in Papua (and Eastern Indonesia) and the varieties they speak, as well as their competence in Papuan Malay vary strongly.
