BBC is the repository for the linguistic corpora produced by the Language Study Unit of the Free University of Bolzano. The Language Study Unit is devoted to the analysis of how linguistic systems, languages and language varieties coexist and are related to one another within society, groups and individuals. It emphasizes research in the field of language contact and face-to- face interaction in multilingual contexts, as well as language acquisition and learning, as they are exemplified in the area of South Tyrol. Data-driven research is based both on qualitative and quantitative approaches, which range from ethnographic fieldwork to statistical analysis; examined phenomena –code-choice and code-switching, learner and ethnic varieties, institutional and informal communication, among others – are analyzed from a systemic perspective, so as to provide explanations for the complexity and regularities of language use. The centre also cooperates with local institutions providing its expertise in language matters and monitors the multilingual orientation of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. BBC ist die Datenbank linguistischer Korpora, die vom Kompetenzzentrum Sprachen der Freien Universität Bozen zur Verfügung gestellt ist. Der Spracherwerb, das Sprachlernen, Sprachsysteme im Kontakt, generell die mehrsprachigen Interaktionsformen und die Diskurse zu Sprachen sind zentrale Themen, mit denen sich das Kompetenzzentrum Sprachen befasst. Es wurde 2004 an der Freien Universität Bozen eingerichtet. Ausgehend vom lokalen Umfeld, welches selbst reich an Erscheinungen des Sprachkontaktes ist, wenden die Forschungsvorhaben des Zentrums ein mehrschichtiges Vorgehen an: So werden bspw. Kodewahl, Kodewechsel, Lernersprachen, ethnische Varietäten, institutionelle und informelle Kommunikation untersucht, wie sie in Individuen, in Gruppen und in der Gesellschaft weltweit vorkommen. Es wird datenbasiert, sowohl quantitativ wie qualitativ vorgegangen: ethnographische Ansätze bis hin zu neurolinguistischen und statistischen Verfahren kommen dabei zur Anwendung. Ziel ist es, der Komplexität des Sprachkontakts Rechnung zu tragen und Regelmäßigkeiten der Sprachverwendung zu erklären. Das Kompetenzzentrum arbeitet mit lokalen Institutionen zusammen und bringt dabei seine Sprachexpertise ein. BBC è il repository dei corpora linguistici prodotti dal Centro Competenza Lingue della Libera Università di Bolzano. Sistemi linguistici in contatto, parlanti in interazione, comunicazione plurilingue, acquisizione e apprendimento, discorsi sulle lingue: queste le principali aree tematiche su cui si snoda l’interesse scientifico del Centro di Competenza Lingue, attivo dal 2004 presso la Libera Università di Bolzano. L’attività del Centro si caratterizza per un forte orientamento verso l’analisi di dati raccolti sul campo, attingendo anche dal contesto locale, linguisticamente molto ricco e diversificato. Nell’applicare una molteplicità di approcci e metodologie, tanto qualitative quanto quantitative, le studiose e gli studiosi del Centro si rivolgono ai diversi aspetti linguistici, interazionali, discorsivi e neurolinguistici dell’uso di uno o più codici. In Alto Adige-Südtirol il Centro collabora con istituzioni formative locali, monitorando inoltre l’orientamento plurilingue della Libera Università di Bolzano, cogliendo le sollecitazioni del territorio in cui si colloca e della sua attuale configurazione sociale e linguistica.
