Additional recordings

In addition to the recordings analysed in her thesis (Bos 1997), Petra Bos made may more recordings. Because of her longitudinal research design, she started with many more respondants than eventually needed. At the start it was not known which children will participate in the required recordings over the entire period of three or four years. This led to a number of superfluous recordings not transcribed nor analysed yet.

In addition, there are frog stories from two monolingual control groups: Arabophone children in Morocco and monolingual Dutch speaking children in the Netherlands. The monolingual Dutch group also functions as the control group in a parallel research project on Turkish in the Netherlands (Aarssen 1996). The data from the Netherlands were collected in a peseudo-longitudinal design. 25 school children were visited and recorded four times: at the age of 4, 5, 6 and seven. A second cohort was recorded three times, at the age of 8, 9 and 10. On every occasion recordings were made in both Moroccan Arabic and Dutch for the bilingual children, and for Dutch only in case of the monolingual control group. In each recording a series of very short stories precedes the frog story. These short stories are also based om drawings presented to the informant. Scans of these drawings are attached here as an information file in pdf format. The monolingual Dutch group also functions as the control group in a parallel research project on Turkish in the Netherlands (Aarssen 1996).
