A couple of younger men have just returned from a bicycle trip to Sota. The people of the Morehead Region usually buy basic trade items like sugar, flour, tobacco, rice and salt on the Indonesian side of the border. Depending on the season and the weather, it takes at least 2 days to get to Sota from Rouku. There are some stories and news to shared after such a trip. recorded with a Canon XA 10 with a mounted shotgun microphone Rode Videomic

This is recording of the chopping and cutting part of the work that is involved in making sago. I walk with Moses Marua to the place where the sago palm is laying. He taks the covering of the stem and starts chopping. After a while Caspar Mokai comes over and joins in the work. Marua Bai comes over too and starts telling stories from the past. These contain some hilarious bits. Later the women come and pick up the sago pulp. After that, we pack up and walk back towards the village. recorded with a Canon XA 10 with a mounted shotgun microphone Rode Videomic
